Coroner: Salvador Perez, 21, Vallejo Killed in Rollover

Salvador Perez, a 21-year-old man and resident of Vallejo, was killed in a fatal rollover crash Wednesday, according to the Solano County Coroner.

A little before 8:45 p.m., California Highway Patrol units responded to a reports am overturned pickup truck. The truck had rolled before slamming into a light pole and stopping on a dirt embankment off the interchange of Highway 37 and Interstate 80.

Perez was ejected from his truck, a 2005 Nissan Titan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police: High BMW Driver Kills Classic Chevy Owner in Deadly Vallejo Crash

When a 1965 Chevrolet sedan broke down, its driver to hopped out and another vehicle pulled over to help, but a 2013 BMW SUV driven by an allegedly intoxicated 30-year-old smashed into them.

The 44-year-old classic car driver and Fairfield resident was killed. His two passengers, a 48-year-old resident of American Canyon and 41-year-old Fairfield resident were injured. A third vehicle, a 1999 Honda was also struck. It had stopped to help the disabled Chevy.

The three-car wreck happened a little before 8 p.m. in the 4200 block of Sonoma Boulevard.

According to police:  The BMW’s driver, a 30-year-old Vallejo resident, was intoxicated and driving north on Sonoma Boulevard when it smashed into the chevy and its operator, who was outside his disabled vehicle.

The BMW’s driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

The tragic death marks a grim milestone for Vallejo. Its 24th traffic fatality this year is the most in city history.

DUI checkpoint in Vallejo results in over 40 citations for various reasons

A DUI checkpoint was held by the Vallejo Police Department on Friday in Vallejo that resulted in 27 motorists cited for driving with a suspended license or no license at all.

The checkpoint, held at the intersection of Sonoma Blvd. and Solano Avenue, was administered from 6:30 p.m. until midnight. Seven hundred and five drivers were screened resulting in the following …

  • 27 drivers were cited for driving with a suspended/revoked license or no license issued
  • 12 vehicles impounded
  • Two DUI arrests
  • One warrant arrest

Checkpoint locations are established based on collision statistics and DUI arrests. According to a news release by the VPD on Sunday, the primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving while impaired.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided to the Vallejo Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Person injured after Fremont carjacking suspects crash into vehicle after officer pursuit

FREMONT — Three people were arrested after a car jacking, police chase and collision with unsuspecting victims on Interstate 680 in Contra Cost and Santa Clara counties.

It started just past 5 p.m., when the suspects approached a woman in a store parking lot on Stevenson Boulevard near Blacow, according to police.

While the suspects were able to take the the car and flee before police responded,  a surveillance system quickly tracked the vehicle to the city’s north side.

When police attempted to apprehend the suspects, they fled onto 1-680. In Santa Clara County, they plowed into a vehicle near the interstate’s Landess Avenue exit in Milpitas.

The crash ejected one of the suspects, who was taken to the hospital.  California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. Further information about victims in the other vehicle has yet to be released by law enforcement.

Motorcyclist Killed in Fresno Crash

A man in his 30s lost his life Friday evening when a car turned left into his motorcycle on Jensen Avenue in Fresno, according to published reports.

The wreck occurred a little after 6:30 p.m., when a car traveling eastbound on Jensen Avenue made a left onto northbound Armstrong Avenue, hitting the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist received lifesaving measures from first responders, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role. The driver of the vehicle that hit the motorcyclist, and a passenger in that car, stayed at the scene.

Identified: Victim Killed in Highway 4 Pittsburg Crash

PITTSBURG — Authorities identified James Kuang, as the 50 year-old man who was killed earlier this week by a drunken driver on Highway 4 in Contra Costa County.

Kuang was driving his Honda east on Highway 4, when a Dodge Durango being driven in the wrong direction on the highway slammed into his vehicle.

The allegedly intoxicated driver of the wrong-way Durango, a 53-year-old with a suspended license, was arrested and turned over to the U.S. Marshals for prosecution in an unrelated case.  Authorities did not release the suspect’s name was not released.

A passenger in the Honda sustained serious injuries. A driver and infant in a third vehicle were also transported to the hospital for evaluation of their injuries.
