A Newport Beach woman walking her dog was hit Sunday morning after the driver of a silver Hyundai sedan ran a red light, the CHP said.

Simon Loza, 18, died after the crash on Magnolia Avenue near Lincoln Street.

A woman and three children were also hurt in a collision that police said was caused by a drunken driver.

Sgt. Tyler Shelton, 22, of San Bernardino and Staff Sgt. Vincent Marketta, 33, of Brick, N.J., were both Black Hawk helicopter repairmen assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment based at Fort Campbell, Ky.

The suit, filed last week as a cross-complaint to litigation against Island Express Helicopters and seeking unspecified damages, contends the crash was “caused by a series of erroneous acts and/or omissions” by a pair of air-traffic controllers.

The crash took place on Interstate 15, south of Rancho California Road.

The passenger was able to get out of the burning sport utility vehicle, a CHP sergeant said.

Michael John Fournier, 52, had been contracted by Cal Fire to work a water-dropping mission on the Hills Fire in western Fresno County.

The Chargers are trying to fill the vacancy created by trading veteran Russell Okung in March.
