The single-vehicle crash occurred about 1:40 a.m. on the transition from the northbound 605 Freeway to the eastbound 10 Freeway.

The crash on Thursday that killed 49-year-old Peter Volkoff occurred almost two years after his wife, Natalie, was also killed in a crash as she was driving home with the couple’s 11-year-old son on Colima Road in Whittier.

A witness indicated the vehicle was speeding just before the crash, police said.

The car went about 450 feet over the side of Angeles Crest Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains.

The crash was reported at 1:11 p.m. near mile marker 70, near the Dawson Saddle.

He was riding a two-wheeler in the Badlands when the accident happened, the CHP said.

The California Highway Patrol said the boy was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
