WRIGHTWOOD — A man was killed Saturday when a vehicle in which he was an occupant went about 450 feet over the side of the Angeles Crest (2) Highway in the San Gabriel Mountains near Wrightwood, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 1:11 p.m. near mile marker 70.60 of the Angeles Crest Highway near the Dawson Saddle area, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man — believed to be about 40 years old — was pronounced dead by paramedics inside the vehicle, the CHP said.

An injured woman was found on the right shoulder of the road.

The CHP requested Caltrans to close the roadway “due to ice in the area, hazardous conditions.”

The CHP log said the road was closed from mile marker 39 to mile marker 70.

The stretch of highway remained closed Sunday morning.
