A 2006 Jeep Wrangler occupied by three people rolled into a ravine, killing a driver from Corona

Jeff Dart, a 23-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Fire District, decided not to defy a possibly illegal order from his captain, and now is out on stress-related leave.

Officers said the man slipped while getting out of his car Sunday evening, Aug. 1.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. Monday in the area of Mission Boulevard and Cucamonga Avenue, the Ontario Police Department said Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The collision happened just after 4 a.m. near Rastall Road, a few miles south of Phelan. The pickup quickly caught fire.

Officers were called at 11:48 p.m. Friday to Mission Boulevard and La Mesa Street, where they located a man who was suffering from serious injuries.

Craig Sale, 59, died in the crash at the intersection of Choiceana Avenue and Yucca Street.
