A vehicle that failed to stop for a stop sign was broadsided by an SUV driven by a man who was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence, officials said.

Bystander video posted Sunday afternoon to Twitter shows a gray sedan in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection, slowly moving through a crowd of protesters on both sides. A few protesters are standing in front of the sedan when it suddenly accelerates.

The agency says it will reimburse riders who got stranded amid the protests, and had to take alternate ways home.

The victim died at the scene.

One man died and another was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter.

A witness told deputies that a dark colored sedan hit a man at a high rate of speed, and its driver did not pull over to check on the injured pedestrian, officials said.

It happened Thursday night on the northbound freeway at about 7:50 p.m.

It happened near Harley Knox Boulevard about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday.
