SJPD Investigating Homicide #17

On June 18, 2023, at approximately 10:43 PM, Officers were in the 200 block of Bassett Street for an unrelated call for service when they were flagged down regarding a person who had been stabbed at the same location. Officers located an adult male in the building who was suffering from at least one stab wound. The male victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased.

SJPD Investigates In-Custody Death

On June 10, 2023, at approximately 11:54 AM, an Officer transported an adult female prisoner from Valley Medical Center (VMC) to the Santa Clara County Jail. The prisoner had been arrested on June 6, 2023 for an outstanding arrest warrant. At the time of the arrest, the prisoner informed officers she had a medical condition that required her to be transported to VMC for treatment. The prisoner was admitted into the hospital and remained there until June 10, 2023. On June 10, 2023, VMC staff informed San Jose Police that the prisoner was being discharged. A SJPD Officer arrived at VMC and transported the prisoner to the jail. The prisoner was rejected by jail medical staff and was once again transported via ambulance back to VMC, where she was ultimately pronounced deceased.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #16

On June 7, 2023, at approximately 3:20 PM, Officers responded to the 2000 block of Beatrice Court for a report of a shooting following a physical altercation. When they arrived, they located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The male victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced deceased.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The suspect is identified and not in custody. 

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This is the City’s 16th homicide of 2023.
