SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #51

On July 30, 2022, at approximately 4:19 PM, Officers responded to the 400 block of Auzerais Avenue to investigate a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2020 Dodge truck, driven by an adult male driver, was driving westbound on Auzerais Avenue when it left the roadway and collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle. The unoccupied parked vehicle was pushed onto the sidewalk and subsequently struck a tree and an adult male pedestrian who was standing in the area.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was not located. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries and was stabilized.

On September 30th, 2022, SJPD traffic investigators were informed that the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased. He was hospitalized for a time then placed in a recovery center where he passed.

This is an on-going investigation. The driver is still outstanding.

This is the 51st fatal collision, and the 53rd traffic death of 2022. This also the 27th pedestrian fatality of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

SJPD Requesting the Public's Assistance with Traffic Fatality #5

The San José Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating and identifying the suspect and vehicle responsible for a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on January 7th, 2022. Detectives investigating the incident have released a still image of the suspect vehicle from nearby surveillance cameras.

SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #49

On September 28, 2022, at approximately 9:01 AM, Officers responded to the 5900 block of Silver Creek Valley Road for a collision involving a motorcycle. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A motorcyclist was in a parking lot at the above location doing wheelies; the adult male rider was not wearing a helmet. While riding in the lot the rider lost control of his motorcycle and collided into the wall of a building; he suffered major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

This is the 49th fatal collision, and the 51st traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #47

On September 16, 2022, at approximately 8:03 AM, Officers responded to the area of Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2022 Mercedes Crossover vehicle, driven by an adult female, was traveling southbound on Castlemont Avenue when it made a left turn to go eastbound onto Driftwood Drive. The Mercedes struck two pedestrians, an adult female, and a male juvenile, who were in a marked crosswalk at the intersection.

Both pedestrians were transported to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries. The female sustained a broken leg and was stabilized. The male juvenile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, we do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. The case will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for future charges.

This is the 47th fatal collision, and the 49th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 26th pedestrian fatality of the year.

SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #48

On September 11, 2022, at approximately 9:49 PM, Officers responded to the area of Murphy Avenue and Ringwood Avenue for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An adult male was riding an electric bicycle eastbound on Murphy Avenue in the number one lane approaching the intersection with Ringwood Avenue. The bicyclist came to a stop at the intersection despite having a green light to proceed; a 2017 Lexus sedan was also traveling eastbound on Murphy Avenue in the number one lane when it rear-ended the stopped bicycle.

The adult male bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and was stabilized.

The adult female driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. There were no signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

On September 14, the bicyclist suffered complications as a result of his injuries sustained in this collision and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

This is the 48th fatal collision, and the 50th traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

On September 7, 2022, at approximately 1:58 PM, Officers responded to the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Lean Avenue to investigate a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An adult male was riding an unknown make and year dirt bike westbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard in the number three lane at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist ran the red light at the intersection with Lean Avenue and collided with a 2018 Tesla sedan, driven by an adult male, that was traveling southbound across the intersection with a green light.

The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Tesla remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation; he was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

This is the 46th fatal collision, and the 48th traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

On September 3, 2022, at approximately 8:44 PM, Officers responded to the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Kiowa Circle to investigate a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 1997 Nissan sports utility vehicle, driven by an adult male, was traveling westbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard in the number three lane when it struck it a pedestrian. The pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Santa Teresa Boulevard in a northbound direction, he was not in a crosswalk. A second vehicle, believed to be an unknown year Chevrolet truck, was traveling westbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard in the number two lane when it also struck the pedestrian, this was after the initial collision. The truck fled the scene and was not located. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

This is the 45th fatal collision, and the 47th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 25th pedestrian fatality of the year.
