On December 11, 2022, at approximately 10:45 AM, Officers responded to the 5500 block of Prospect Road for a report of a fight. An unknown suspect trespassed at a care facility and assaulted staff. The victim, an employee of the care home, assisted in holding down the suspect until Officers arrived on scene. Upon arrival, Officers took the adult male suspect into custody for burglary and assault. While Officers were on scene, the victim collapsed from the physical exertion of restraining the suspect. Officers provided life saving aid and requested emergency medical personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The victim was identified by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office as Alex Albetria. On April 24, 2023, the Coroner’s Office advised SJPD that their investigation had determined that the victim’s cause of death was homicide.
The suspect is identified and the investigation has been submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for further review and a determination on potential charges.
This is the City’s 11th homicide of 2023.
