The San José Police Department Vice Unit recently applied for and was awarded a grant by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) in conjunction with the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).
The grant provides funding for the SJPD Vice Unit to conduct four different kinds of underaged alcohol operations: Minor Decoy Operations, Shoulder Tap Operations, Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies (IMPACT) checks, and general holiday enforcement.
These operations are meant to bring public awareness to the negative impacts of youth access to alcohol, while identifying problem businesses in the city. SJPD is taking a proactive approach to solving alcohol access among youth and also encourages its citizens to report problem businesses in their community.
SJPD is planning on conducting the first operation in January of 2023. These operations will be a combined effort between the SJPD Vice Unit, ABC, and the Office of the District Attorney.
This project is part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
