Woman Dies From Injuries in Menifee DUI Crash

MENIFEE — The wreck a drunken driver caused has now claimed the a woman’s life, according to police.

The crash happened slightly after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Berea and Newport roads, according to the Menifee Police Department.

A 41-year-old woman, who was critically injured in the crash, died from those injuries Thursday, according to published reports.  Her name has yet-to-be released.

Gabriel Derian, 41, of Menifee, remains in the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive to face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and DUI resulting in great bodily injury.

Derian drove a Ford SUV westbound on Newport Road, ran a red traffic signal, and broadsided a BMW SUV. The woman killed was driving the BMW south on Berea Road. The crash caused her to hit a Chrysler sedan, whose driver was going to make an eastbound turn onto Newport Road from Berea Road.

A 55-year-old Menifee woman was driving the Chrysler. She was treated and released from the hospital.
