On February 24, 2014, around 9:20 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of New York Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Arriving officers discovered a male adult pedestrian lying beneath the tire of a large International Work truck. The driver remained at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that after the collision, the male 31-year-old driver, a resident of Winchester, CA, immediately stopped and called emergency personnel for assistance. It appears the pedestrian was attempting to cross New York Street mid-block, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in stable condition. The driver was interviewed at the scene and found to have a valid drivers license and insurance. The investigation is ongoing.
