On Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at approx. 4:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to Pacific Coast Highway and Lemon Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle, which resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the male motorcyclist lying unconscious on the northwest corner of the intersection. He was being treated by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Toyota Prius, being driven by a 27-year-old female from Long Beach, was driving east on Pacific Coast Highway, while the motorcyclist was riding a 2015 Yamaha, west on Pacific Coast Highway. The Toyota was waiting at the green light to make a left turn to head north on Lemon Avenue. As the light turned red, she attempted to complete her left turn, when she was struck by the motorcyclist who had entered the intersection on a red light.

The motorcyclist is only being identified as a 20-year-old male from Long Beach, pending notification of next of kin. Although he did have a valid driver’s license, he did not have a motorcycle endorsement.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, also has a valid driver’s license, and was injured.
