On Sunday, June 10, 2018, at approximately 4:06 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the 2700 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding an injury traffic collision. When officers arrived on scene they observed a two vehicles involved.
On scene, officers found one of the driver’s trapped inside a vehicle that had to be extricated by Long Beach Fire Personnel. Paramedics determined the driver a male adult deceased. The other driver was uninjured and there were no other occupants in the vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 19-year-old female resident of Long Beach was driving a 1999 Mercedes Benz E320 south on Long Beach Boulevard. It appears that driver fell asleep and collided into the rear of 1993 Ford Escort LX station wagon. The Ford was parked along the curb in front of 2789 Long Beach Boulevard and a 70-year-old male resident of Los Angeles was asleep in the driver’s seat of that vehicle.
The momentum of the collision caused both vehicles to travel south until the vehicles came to rest up against a business building. The building had minimal exterior damage and no structural damage.
The female driver of the Mercedes Benz did not have a valid driver’s license, however provided proof of insurance. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in this collision.
