On October 23, 2018, at approx. 12:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to Wardlow Road and Gondar Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a truck and motorcycle, which resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.
When officers arrived, they located a male subject in the roadway at the northwest corner of the intersection, who was identified as the motorcyclist. Long Beach Fire personnel responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital with traumatic injuries, where he was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
The preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist, riding a black 2012 Yamaha Star motorcycle, was travelling west on Wardlow Road approaching Gondar Avenue. As he entered the intersection, he struck a white 2005 Ford F150, which was travelling eastbound on Wardlow Road and attempting to make a left to head north onto Gondar Avenue. It was determined the driver of the of the truck did not see the motorcycle as he made his turning maneuver.
The identity of the the motorcyclist, who is believed to be a 17-year-old resident of Long Beach, will be officially determined by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old resident of Cypress, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were considered to be factors in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing.
