On Thursday, June 27, 2019, at approximately 10:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Long Beach Blvd. south of 44th Street regarding a vehicle versus vehicle injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a total of nine injured occupants from both vehicles. Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and began treating the injured occupants and ultimately transported all occupants to local hospitals.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Kia Rio, driven by a 90-year-old female resident of Los Alamitos, failed to yield to oncoming traffic when it exited onto Long Beach Blvd. from a driveway at 4300 block of Long Beach Blvd. A male passenger of the 2015 Kia was later pronounced deceased at the hospital due to his injuries. He was identified as s 91-year-old Howard Schaack of Los Alamitos.
Upon exiting onto Long Beach Blvd. the 2015 Kia was struck by a 2010 Dodge Challenger, driven by a 27-year-old female resident of Long Beach, which was traveling northbound in the #2 lane of Long Beach Blvd., south of the driveway at 4300 block of Long Beach Blvd.
Of the seven occupants in the Dodge Challenger, only one male adult passenger was using his seatbelt. The female driver and five minor children in the backseat were unrestrained.
