When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a 2008 Toyota Scion with major front and side damage, with four occupants, in the westbound lanes of traffic. Also at the scene was a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo with major front-end damage. The Isuzu Rodeo had no occupants when officers arrived. Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported all four occupants of the Toyota Scion to local hospitals.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Isuzu Rodeo was traveling without its headlights on at a high rate of speed, westbound on Anaheim Street, in the eastbound lanes when it collided head-on with the Toyota Scion. A male subject was seen walking away from the collision eastbound on Anaheim Street.
The driver of the Toyota Scion was identified as Marie McLaughlin, a 26-year-old resident of Long Beach, who was transported to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. All three passengers from the Toyota Scion were transported to local hospitals, one of which was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival to the hospital. The remaining two adult passengers from the Toyota Scion had non-life threatening injuries.
The deceased passenger from the Toyota Scion was a 28-year-old male resident of Tempe, Arizona. The identity of the decedent is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Isuzu Rodeo is described only as a male, wearing a white t-shirt, who fled the scene east on Anaheim Street.
