On Dec. 2, 2020, at approximately, 7:15 p.m, officers responded to an injury hit and run collision in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lewis Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an adult male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle and later succumbed to his injuries.
Once on scene, officers performed life saving measures until the Long Beach Fire Department responded. Despite their efforts, the male pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The pedestrian was identified as Jackson Allender, a 32-year-old resident of Long Beach.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Mercury sedan, driven by a 30-year-old resident of Long Beach, was traveling eastbound Pacific Coast Highway when it struck a parked vehicle before striking the pedestrian who was attempting to cross the street outside of a crosswalk.
The Mercury fled the scene of the collision and the driver was arrested by patrol officers shortly after the collision. The driver was identified as Joshua Lemusu of Long Beach. He was booked for driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter, and failure to stop at a scene of a traffic accident causing bodily injuries. Lemusu is being held on $100,000.
