On Oct. 24, 2021, at approximately 4:42 p.m., officers were on patrol when they located a traffic collision at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Bixby Road involving a motorcycle and a vehicle which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult motorcyclist suffering from significant injuries due to the collision. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene, and despite rendering lifesaving aid, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was determined deceased at the scene.
Through their preliminary investigation, detectives learned a black Nissan Rogue being driven by a 55-year-old male resident of Long Beach was traveling northbound on Cherry Avenue and making a westbound turn onto Bixby Road. As the Nissan was turning, the decedent, riding a Suzuki motorcycle, was traveling southbound on the west service road of Cherry Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the Nissan.
The Driver of the Nissan was uninjured, remained on scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, neither distracted driving nor impaired driving is believed to be a factor in the collision; however, the investigation remains ongoing.
The motorcyclist is only being identified as a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
