The Hemet Police Department said it wasn’t immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

Two people were ejected from the vehicle they were in, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The early morning crash involved a van and another vehicle, the CHP said.

Erika Amaya, 43, of Moreno Valley, died at 4:45 a.m. near Bridge Street.

It was the second fatal crash in three days on the same stretch of the expressway near Bridge Street.

The suspect was treated for moderate injuries. He remained in jail Monday.

The crash was reported on Ramona Expressway east of Bridge Street at 4:15 a.m.

If a vehicle noses into the intersection while the light is yellow, it is legal.
