The crash happened at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Alessandro and Perris boulevards.

The lawsuit alleges Sheriff Alex Villanueva personally assured Vanessa Bryant that deputies were securing the crash site to ensure her privacy.

The crash happened largely in a downtown tunnel below an underpass where police said many people were seeking shelter from the rain.

A driver from Lake Elsinore was killed, and another Lake Elsinore motorist was injured.

It happened about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday when a car rear-ended a big rig stopped on the side of the freeway.

The officer was on duty in an unmarked car. The collision involved a semitruck whose driver did not appear to be injured.
