Investigators believe a driver crossed into oncoming traffic and was struck by another car.

Franky Antonio Provencio was sentenced to 14 years and four months in state prison.

The driver clipped a city vehicle and was talking erratically when pulled over by a police officer, who thought she was intoxicated and driving illegally.

Aaliyah Girard, 16, of San Jacinto was a senior at Mountain Heights Academy. Neither she nor her brother, Legend Girard, 1, was buckled in, police said.

A semi-truck hauling a trailer was stopped in traffic when the box truck travelling behind it was unable to come to a stop or slow down before colliding with the back of the trailer, authorities said. 

The motorcyclist died at the scene. Details on what led to the collision were not available.

The collision was reported about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday on Domenigoni Parkway near Lindenberger Road.

The male motorcyclist was “gravely injured” from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, police said.
