The Ford Explorer appeared to use the right shoulder of the roadway to pass a big-rig, the CHP said.

The pedestrian was hit in the 900 block of East Holt Avenue.

The crash on the westbound freeway at the Indian Hill Boulevard onramp occurred a little before 1:55 a.m.

The crash was reported at 7:50 a.m. in the westbound lanes east of Citrus Avenue, the CHP said.

The dragster went off the end of the track and overturned in a wash, authorities said. Officials identified the driver as 43-year-old Marcus Norris, of Lichfield Park, Ariz.

The Ford Explorer was going about 80 mph when it hit a concrete pillar for the 215 Freeway overpass, according to a witness the CHP said.

The highway is unlit in the area where the man was struck, and there were no witnesses, the CHP said.
