Deputy Thomas J. Albanese, 41, died in a crash at Del Amo and Paramount boulevards on Thursday morning.

The driver told a California Highway Patrol officer that he’d been using the mannequin for more than a year before getting caught last week.

Firefighters ripped off the windshield of the SUV with an ax and rushed Woods to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

The fatal shooting occurred at Beverly Court and Sixth Street.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a Toyota entered the northbound lane and collided head on with a Jeep.

Police said the incident happened around 6 p.m. in the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Kansas Avenue
