SJPD Awarded $250,000 Grant from the Office of Traffic Safety

The San José Police Department will roll out a police traffic services program to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors that increase the risk of crashes in the community.

“Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road. This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads,” said Sergeant Jeffrey.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #32

On October 30, 2022, at approximately 12:45 AM, Officers responded to the 500 block of Madera Avenue on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered life saving aid. The victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect is unidentified and remains at large. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This is the City’s 32nd homicide of 2022.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #31

On October 29, 2022, at approximately 11:26 PM, Officers responded to the intersection of Kaufmann Court and Melbourne Boulevard on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two adult males suffering from at least one gunshot wound each. Officers rendered life saving aid, and both victims were transported to a local hospital. One male succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #30

On October 26, 2022, at approximately 6:05 PM, Officers responded to the 900 block of Daffodil Way on a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found an adult female, suffering from at least one stab wound. Officers rendered life saving measures. The victim succumbed to her injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

During the initial investigation an adult male was contacted at the scene. Preliminary information is the male was responsible for the stabbing. He was arrested and will be identified in the coming days. This incident was not a random act, it was determined that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Video: SJPD Requesting the Public’s Assistance with Hit and Run Investigation Involving Elderly Female and Toddler

On October 25, 2022, at approximately 5:40 PM, Officers responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians in the area of Sierra Road and Mauna Kea Lane. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A newer dark gray four door hatchback, similar to a 2012 Mazda 3 (picture below) was traveling westbound on Sierra Road at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to yield to an elderly female pushing a three year old toddler in a stroller walking westbound while in a marked crosswalk.  The suspect vehicle will possibly have damage to the front driver’s side of the vehicle.

SJPD Arrests Suspects for Peter's Bakery Robbery

On August 17th, 2022, at approximately 1:20 AM, five masked suspects committed an armed robbery at Peter’s Bakery located at 3108 Alum Rock Avenue. Two of the suspects held employees at knifepoint and demanded to know where the cash was kept, while the other three suspects rummaged through the business. Fearing for their lives, the victims told the suspects where the cash box was. The suspects took the cash box and then fled in a white BMW. San José Police collected surveillance footage of the suspects and vehicle.

On October 22, 2022, at approximately 2:06 AM, Officers responded to the 1700 block of McKee Road on a report of a person stabbed. When they arrived, they found an adult male, suffering from at least one stab wound. Life saving measures were administered. The male victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect remains at large.
