Three children struck by car, seriously injured, as they walked home from school

Antioch police stated three children sustained serious injuries Friday, when they were struck by a car while walking home from school.

The driver of the car witnesses say was responsible for the crash had been kicked off the elementary school campus a few blocks away just moments earlier. After the collision,  witnesses reported he looked dazed, when he emerged from his vehicle with a knife and stab wound.

At 3:23 PM, police were dispatched to the scene of the accident at Sycamore Drive & Manzanita Way. They found three critically injured children. The three children were all treated on the spot and flown to hospital for further care. Unfortunately, the condition of the third juvenile wasn’t available.

Witnesses claim that a Mercury Mystique was traveling westbound on Sycamore Drive, waiting for traffic to clear, before turning right onto Manzanita Way. Police say that a Chevrolet Impala was also leaving Sycamore Square at high speed, going westbound on Sycamore Drive, and trying to pass it, struck the Mercury instead, propelling it into the group.

According to police, the Impala’s driver was flown to the hospital for serious injuries. The Mercury Mystique driver was treated as a precaution.

The victims’ ages were not released by police, who said that the investigation was ongoing and there wasn’t any additional information.
