Fremont: Passenger dies in vehicle collision with tanker-hauling big rig

FREMONT — A tanker-hauling big rig collided with a vehicle early Monday, killing the vehicle’s passenger.

The cash occurred at about 4:15 a.m. at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Boyce road.

The vehicle’s passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity will be released after next-of-kin are notified.

According to published reports, the big-rig driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who learned that the vehicle had been westbound on Stewart when it entered Boyce and struck the big rig traveling northbound.

Man Arrested After Rollover Crash in Madera

MADERA – A 35-year-old Madera man was arrested after police say he rolled his car while driving with a blood alcohol content three times the legal limit.

The crash occurred Saturday in the 400 block of N. Schnoor Ave.

Thomas Bangoura was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to police, the crash had the potential to be life-threatening.

San Jose man accused of killing 2 Union City women in drunk-driving crash

OAKLAND — Alameda County Prosecutors have brought manslaughter charges and drunk driving charges against a San Jose resident who was identified by police as the driver of a fatal car accident that claimed two lives last Thanksgiving, according to court records.

Robert Jacob Espinoza, 26, was arrested for two counts of vehicular manslaughter and three counts of drunk driving, in relation to the Nov. 28 accident. Ann Marie Carpaneto and Laura Pereira were his victims. Ann Marie died two weeks later from injuries.

According to police, Espinoza was driving his Tesla along Interstate 880 near Union City when he collided with a Volkswagen parked on the shoulder close to Whipple Road. It happened at 3:00 a.m.

Espinoza was intoxicated at the accident scene, according to an investigator from California Highway Patrol. He was then arrested. Authorities said that three people were injured in the Tesla.

According to CHP, the Tesla wasn’t using “self-driving software” when the accident occurred.

According to court records, Espinoza has pleaded not guilty during a Sept. 22 hearing. He is currently out of custody while charges are being pending.

The reason the Volkswagen was left parked at the shoulder by police has not been made public.

Driver turns his car in the Central Valley near Fresno State

FRESNO – Fresno police report a driver turned his vehicle on its side near Fresno State early Friday morning.

It happened at around 5:15 a.m., near Shaw and Chestnut avenues, according to police. The driver was traveling southbound on Chestnut Avenue when he reached a roundabout.

Police say the driver lost control and hit a curb. Then, he flipped over landing in Save Mart Center’s parking lot.

He was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. Investigators are still investigating the cause of this crash.

Driver killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 880 near San Leandro

SAN LEANDRO — Late Monday night, a one-car collision on a freeway ramp resulted in the death of a male driver.

CHP was called to respond at 11:53 pm. CHP Officer Zachary Hunter stated that it happened at Davis Street’s exit on northbound Interstate 880.

The driver was not identified by authorities immediately. He died on the spot. Hunter stated that he drove a Porsche Cayenne, and seemed to have lost control because he did not slow down on the exit.

Hunter stated that the Porsche skidded off the road, then slid over an off-ramp in shrubbery and trees. The wreckage occurred even though it was not raining.

Woman Trapped and Seriously Injured in crash on Peabody Road

Fairfield firefighters used extrication tools to free a woman who was trapped inside her car after she crashed into a dump truck at Peabody Road. She sustained major injuries and had to be extricated, according to a chief of the department battalion.

Andy Cranston was the battalion head and stated that the road was shut down for approximately 90 minutes when crews reached the scene of the accident at around 11:30 AM.

Firefighters used motorized cutting tools and a camera to remove the door of the car. The firefighters struggled for 20 minutes to rescue the woman. He said that she was later transported o the local trauma center.

Motorcyclist seriously injured, snarling traffic near Fairfield Air Base Parkway

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries Saturday,  after he collided with an SUV on Peabody Road near Fairfield Air Base Parkway.

For almost five hours, traffic was jammed, as police investigated the crash scene.

Officials did not release any details about the accident, however, they said that the victim was taken to the local hospital in critical condition. They added that he is likely to recover.

Just before 10:00 a.m., Pea Body Road was reopened.

SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #47

On September 16, 2022, at approximately 8:03 AM, Officers responded to the area of Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2022 Mercedes Crossover vehicle, driven by an adult female, was traveling southbound on Castlemont Avenue when it made a left turn to go eastbound onto Driftwood Drive. The Mercedes struck two pedestrians, an adult female, and a male juvenile, who were in a marked crosswalk at the intersection.

Both pedestrians were transported to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries. The female sustained a broken leg and was stabilized. The male juvenile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. At this time, we do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. The case will be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for future charges.

This is the 47th fatal collision, and the 49th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 26th pedestrian fatality of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #48

On September 11, 2022, at approximately 9:49 PM, Officers responded to the area of Murphy Avenue and Ringwood Avenue for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An adult male was riding an electric bicycle eastbound on Murphy Avenue in the number one lane approaching the intersection with Ringwood Avenue. The bicyclist came to a stop at the intersection despite having a green light to proceed; a 2017 Lexus sedan was also traveling eastbound on Murphy Avenue in the number one lane when it rear-ended the stopped bicycle.

The adult male bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and was stabilized.

The adult female driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. There were no signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

On September 14, the bicyclist suffered complications as a result of his injuries sustained in this collision and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

This is the 48th fatal collision, and the 50th traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.
