SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #52

On October 9, 2022, at approximately 12:50 AM, Officers responded to the area of Senter Road and Story Road to investigate a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a bicyclist. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

An unknown make, year, sedan was driving northbound on Senter Road in the number three lane when it struck an adult male bicyclist who was also riding northbound in the number three lane of Senter Road. After the initial collision the driver of the vehicle fled; the bicyclist was down in the roadway when the second collision occurred. A 2012 GMC sports utility vehicle, driven by an adult male driver, was driving northbound in the number three lane when it struck the downed bicyclist. The driver of the GMC remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver and vehicle involved in the first collision were not located or identified. The investigation is on-going.

This is the 52nd fatal collision, and the 54th traffic death of 2022.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

San Jose Police Crash Reports, San Jose Police Feed / By

On July 30, 2022, at approximately 4:19 PM, Officers responded to the 400 block of Auzerais Avenue to investigate a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2020 Dodge truck, driven by an adult male driver, was driving westbound on Auzerais Avenue when it left the roadway and collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle. The unoccupied parked vehicle was pushed onto the sidewalk and subsequently struck a tree and an adult male pedestrian who was standing in the area.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was not located. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries and was stabilized.

On September 30th, 2022, SJPD traffic investigators were informed that the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased. He was hospitalized for a time then placed in a recovery center where he passed.

This is an on-going investigation. The driver is still outstanding.

This is the 51st fatal collision, and the 53rd traffic death of 2022. This also the 27th pedestrian fatality of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

Suspected Drunken Driver Remains Free After Crash that Killed San Lorenzo Man

Authorities identified the man who died in a crash on Interstate 680 in Pleasanton last month.

Jamari Ross, of San Lorenzo, was killed when the Mercedes Benz he was riding in flipped over a cement barrier on Interstate 680 at about 5:45 a.m. on Sept. 10. Ross was thrown from the Mercedes. He died at the scene.

The driver, a Stockton woman, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.  She admitted to driving the vehicle and tested at nearly 50 percent higher than the legal limit, according to published reports. She told police that hours before the crash, she had done tequila shots with Ross at a Stockton night club. She has yet to be charged with a crime stemming from the deadly crash, according to published reports.

Oakland Police Officer Hospitalized by Fleeing Suspect’s Car in East Oakland

OAKLAND — An Oakland police officer was hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a driver fleeing a traffic stop in East Oakland, according to published reports.

Police had responded to reports of a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 5200 block of Wentworth Avenue. They briefly spoke to the driver, before he sped off, striking the officer in the getaway.

A few hours after after the incident, police located the driver and arrested him. The officer was taken to the hospital.

Cyclist Killed in Head-On Crash With Sports Car

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.- A cyclist was killed when a sports car veered into her path, causing a head-on crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 10:20 a.m. on Sunday near 19580 Watts Valley Road in Fresno County.

A Fresno woman in her 50s was riding a bicycle westbound on Watts Valley Road when she crashed head on with an Acura NSX, driven by a 45-year-old man.

The Acura had veered into the cyclist’s path, causing the crash. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated, but may face a charge of vehicular manslaughter, according to published reports.
