SJPD Investigating Traffic Fatality #56

On November 2, 2022, at approximately 4:36 AM, Officers responded to the area of Cherry Avenue and Almaden Expressway to investigate a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The preliminary investigation revealed the following:

A 2020 Hyundai sports utility vehicle, driven by an adult female driver, was traveling westbound on Cherry Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking across Cherry Avenue outside of any marked crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No drug or alcohol influence is suspected.

This is the 56th fatal collision, and the 58th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 30 pedestrian fatality of the year.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

SJPD Awarded $250,000 Grant from the Office of Traffic Safety

The San José Police Department will roll out a police traffic services program to deter dangerous and illegal driving behaviors that increase the risk of crashes in the community.

“Impairment, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors jeopardize the safety of other people on the road. This funding allows us to provide necessary traffic enforcement measures with the goal of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our roads,” said Sergeant Jeffrey.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #32

On October 30, 2022, at approximately 12:45 AM, Officers responded to the 500 block of Madera Avenue on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered life saving aid. The victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect is unidentified and remains at large. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This is the City’s 32nd homicide of 2022.
