San Francisco Police Makes Arrest in Central District Battery 23-006

On January 9, 2023, at approximately 12:04 p.m., San Francisco Police officers assigned to Central Station responded to the 700 block of Montgomery Street regarding a possible assault. Officers arrived on scene and met with a male suspect, identified as 71-year-old Shannon Collier Gwin of San Francisco, and an adult female victim who was involved in a dispute. Officers interviewed both parties who declined further police action at that time.  

The San Francisco Street Crisis Response Team responded to the scene and provided multiple service options to the victim. Officers authored a police report documenting the incident.    

SFPD Investigators took over the investigation and developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Gwin.  

On January 18, 2023, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Gwin was arrested on the 700 block of Montgomery Street for the warrant. Gwin was transported to the San Francisco County Jail where he was booked for the arrest warrant on the charge of battery (242 PC).

San Francisco Police Makes Arrest in Central District Battery 23-006

On January 9, 2023, at approximately 12:04 p.m., San Francisco Police officers assigned to Central Station responded to the 700 block of Montgomery Street regarding a possible assault. San Francisco Police Investigate Mission District Homicide 23-003

On January 6, 2023, at approximately 1:53 a.m., San Francisco Police officers from Mission Station responded to the 600 block of Valencia Street regarding a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located two male victims and two female victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The two female victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the two male victims suffered life-threatening injuries. Despite the life-saving efforts of the emergency responders and the medical staff, a 28-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The SFPD Homicide Detail responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

SJPD Investigating Homicide #2

On January 1st, 2023, at approximately 2:48 AM, Officers responded to the area of 60 North Jackson Avenue on a report of an assault incident. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from injuries he sustained from being struck by a vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. On January 15, 2023, the victim succumbed to his injury at the hospital and was pronounced deceased.

The suspect responsible for this incident was contacted and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on the day and time of the incident. He will be identified in the coming days. Homicide charges will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office. The motive and circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The identity of the deceased victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after confirming the victim’s identity and notifying next of kin.

This is the City’s 2nd homicide of 2023.
