Driver Arrested After Pedestrian Struck in Downtown Oakley

OAKLEY — Police said they arrested a woman who drove the vehicle that struck a pedestrian in downtown Oakley late Tuesday evening.

The woman, who was driving a silver SUV, fled the scene. But police posted a photo of her vehicle to social media to identify and apprehend her .

The collision happened at 7:10 p.m., as the SUV drove eastbound on Main Street at Norcross Lane in traffic at about 25 mph. The injured woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated for head and arm injuries and released, Foreman said.

Man Sitting in Car Killed in Hayward Crash

HAYWARD — Just before 3 a.m., a man sitting inside a car near the intersection of  W. Winton Avenue and Thunderbird Place was killed when a vehicle crashed into his.

The driver and a passenger of that vehicle initially left the scene, but later returned to cooperate with police. They have not been arrested, according to published reports.

Hayward police stated they found the man unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has yet to be released.

Suspected Drunken Driver Remains Free After Crash that Killed San Lorenzo Man

Authorities identified the man who died in a crash on Interstate 680 in Pleasanton last month.

Jamari Ross, of San Lorenzo, was killed when the Mercedes Benz he was riding in flipped over a cement barrier on Interstate 680 at about 5:45 a.m. on Sept. 10. Ross was thrown from the Mercedes. He died at the scene.

The driver, a Stockton woman, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.  She admitted to driving the vehicle and tested at nearly 50 percent higher than the legal limit, according to published reports. She told police that hours before the crash, she had done tequila shots with Ross at a Stockton night club. She has yet to be charged with a crime stemming from the deadly crash, according to published reports.

Oakland Police Officer Hospitalized by Fleeing Suspect’s Car in East Oakland

OAKLAND — An Oakland police officer was hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a driver fleeing a traffic stop in East Oakland, according to published reports.

Police had responded to reports of a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 5200 block of Wentworth Avenue. They briefly spoke to the driver, before he sped off, striking the officer in the getaway.

A few hours after after the incident, police located the driver and arrested him. The officer was taken to the hospital.

Fatal Hit and Run in Walnut Creek

Walnut Creek Police want the public’s help in finding a gold a or tan four-door sedan that struck and killed a woman on Oct. 1.

The vehicle was spotted as it sped off from the deadly collision on the corner of North California Boulevard and Civic Drive. The woman who was struck, died at the hospital.

Several witnessed called 911 to report the hit-and-run.  Walnut Creek police are asking members of the public with any information to call 925-943-5844.

Oakland PD Fires Officer After Speeding in Crash

The Oakland police department fired an officer after investigators reported he lied in a written statement about a crash and injure he caused while speeding, according to published reports.

Officer Victor Adrian Garcia was driving at faster than 70 miles per hour without running his sirens or lights when he crashed into another vehicle in the 8000 block of International Boulevard on Oct. 10, 2020.

According to an internal affairs report, an officer investigating the crash in late January 2021 noted conflicting statements, including the officer’s claim that his cruiser was doing about 25 mph while a witness estimated a speed closer to 60.

The patrol vehicle’s black-box data recorded 70.7 mph about 1.5 seconds before the crash. The cruiser braked hard, reaching 40.6 mph at impact, but was still well above the 25 mph speed limit.
