Person Hit and Killed After Crash on 60 Freeway in Inland Empire
A pedestrian died on the 60 Freeway early Friday after being struck by a vehicle moments after a two-car crash was reported, according to CHP logs.
911 dispatch received a call just after 1:30 a.m. that two cars collided on the westbound 60 Freeway east of Valley Way in Riverside County.
Initial reports indicated a black Honda Civic and Mini Cooper collided, spinning out one of the two cars and leaving it facing the wrong direction on the freeway.
Within minutes of those first reports, another caller reported she had run over a body laying in the freeway. A different 911 caller advised the person was crossing the freeway when they were struck. That caller stated the vehicle who initially hit the pedestrian did not stop at the accident scene.
It remains unclear from available CHP records how many vehicles struck the pedestrian or whether CHP is currently searching for a suspect in the deadly crash. It also remains unclear whether the pedestrian was out of their vehicle, because of the initial two-car crash.
One caller reported that a person was hit in the left lane, while another indicates the victim was on the right high shoulder. It’s not immediately clear from CHP logs whether there may have been two pedestrians struck by vehicles.
In addition to CHP units, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies also responded to the crash.
