KARAWANG, Indonesia (AP) — A Lion Air plane crashed into the sea just minutes after taking off from Indonesia’s capital on Monday, likely killing all 189 people on board, in a blow to the country’s aviation safety record after the lifting of bans on its airlines by the European Union and U.S.

Police said the truck sped off a 215 Freeway off ramp and plowed into the back of a car stopped at a red light.

The crash happened near Rainbow Valley Boulevard.

The collision happened about 8 a.m. in the area of Soquel Canyon Parkway and Mindenvale Parkway.

Three friends had gone to the airport to pick up a fourth.

The crash, reported at 11:48 p.m. Tuesday at Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street, shut down the roadway for more than 8 hours.

Sheriff’s Aviation, along with Chino and Montclair Police Departments helped find and apprehend the fleeing driver, officials said.
