On March 8, 2018, at approximately 5:30 pm, officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to Wardlow Road and Atlantic Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between two vehicles and a pedestrian.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an unconscious male subject lying on the sidewalk on the southwest corner of the intersection. Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics responded and determined the subject deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 23-year-old female resident of Long Beach was driving a 2017 Toyota 86 north on Atlantic Avenue. She was in the process of turning left onto Wardlow Road when 2017 Honda Accord, being driven by a 30-year-old female resident of Long Beach, was traveling south on Atlantic Avenue. As the Toyota 86 turned left, the two vehicles collided causing the Honda to change course and go in a southwest direction. The Honda struck a pedestrian who was sitting on a retaining wall that bordered the parking lot of a shopping center on the corner.
The Toyota 86 remained stopped in the intersection after the collision. The Honda came to rest in the parking lot of the shopping center.
The decedent is believed to be a transient and his identity has yet to be determined.
All occupants of the vehicles were wearing their seatbelts including a juvenile male passenger in the Honda. No injuries were sustained from any of the occupants of the vehicles.
Both drivers had valid drivers licenses and valid proofs of insurance. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
