On Tuesday December 4, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard regarding a hit and run injury traffic collision, which resulted in the death of a male adult.
Upon arrival, officers located a male pedestrian laying in the roadway. The pedestrian was determined to be deceased at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a black newer model sedan was traveling southbound in the number two lane of Long Beach Boulevard approaching Artesia Boulevard. The suspect vehicle then collided with the pedestrian, who was walking westbound across Long Beach Boulevard outside of a crosswalk.
After striking the pedestrian, the suspect vehicle continued driving southbound on Long Beach Boulevard and made a westbound turn on Artesia Boulevard. The suspect vehicle drove out of sight and did not return back to the scene of the collision.
The victim is only being identified as a 54-year-old of Long Beach, pending notification to next of kin.
