On Friday, March 6, 2020 at approximately 6:15 p.m. officers responded to the area of Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street regarding an injury traffic collison between a vehicle and pedestrian, which ultimately resulted in the death of an adult female.
Upon arrival officers found the involved pedestrian was unconscious and not breathing. Officers began life saving measures until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene. Once on scene, fire personnel transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian, a 86-year-old female resident of Long Beach, was crossing Magnolia Avenue from the southeast curb of Magnolia Avenue and 32nd Street to the southwest curb. As the pedestrian was crossing the street in a crosswalk, she was struck by a gray 2003 Honda Pilot that was traveling southbound on Magnolia Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old Male resident of Long Beach, remained at the scene, rendered aid, and cooperated with the investigation. Neither alcohol, drugs, nor distracted driving was a factor for the driver. He had a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Identification of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
