ONTARIO >> Street racing may have been the cause of a fatal crash that killed a Los Angeles man Wednesday afternoon in Ontario, officials said.
Just before 3 p.m., Ontario police officers were called to the 3000 block of East Cedar Street for a crash involving a silver BMW 325i and a second vehicle. Witnesses reported the two vehicles were racing prior to the crash.
The BMW overturned. The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Denie Juan Sandoval, remained inside the vehicle, unresponsive, according to a police statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic investigators determined Sandoval and the second vehicle were racing on Cedar Street, officials said. It appears Sandoval lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree, causing the vehicle to roll.
A driver officials believe was racing with Sandoval initially left the scene but later returned and is cooperating with the investigation, officials said.
The Ontario Police Traffic Division is handling the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer James Mota at 909-395-2001, Ext. 4772.
