ONTARIO >> Authorities have shut down Vineyard Avenue and Fourth Street in Ontario following a fatal crash between a Ford SUV and motorcycle Friday afternoon, officials said.
Ontario police Lt. Brent Courtney confirmed the 23-year-old motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash took place around 1:30 p.m., according to initial reports.
The motorcyclist was southbound on Vineyard at a high rate of speed, according to independent witnesses, said Sgt. Jeff Higbee with the Ontario police. The driver of a Ford SUV tried to make a left turn onto northbound Vineyard when the collision occurred.
Three occupants were in the SUV, including the driver, Higbee added.
Courtney said he didn’t believe the driver was hospitalized.
Investigators are still working on who is at fault because of the speed of the motorcycle, Higbee said. All parties are cooperating.
