POMONA >> A San Bernardino man who reportedly fled from deputies in a stolen vehicle out of Chino Hills was arrested Wednesday after he crashed into a vehicle and then smashed into the gates of a Pomona apartment complex, officials said.
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Cody Circle of San Bernardino, said Lt. Sarkis Ohannessian of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. He was on active probation for possession of stolen property.
Hours before the 11 a.m. crash, Deputy Brian Arias of the Chino Hills station took a stolen vehicle report on a Honda, sheriff’s officials said.
While on patrol, Arias spotted the Honda at Mission Boulevard and Pipeline Avenue in Montclair with two people inside it, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
Arias tried to pull the Honda over, but the driver, later identified as Circle, instead drove off quickly, officials said.
“During the pursuit, the vehicle collided with another car near a Jack-in-the-Box and continued into the city of Pomona, where it came to rest when it collided into a gates of an apartment complex,” Ohannessian said.
The crash at the apartment complex took place around 11 a.m. at Eleanor and Fourth streets, according to Pomona police Capt. Anthony Catanes.
Circle reportedly ran into the complex but was caught a short time later, officials said.
The female passenger, Camille Cuevas, was found with drug paraphernalia and was arrested, according to the sheriff’s news release.
There were no reports of major injuries.
