RIVERSIDE >> A Yucaipa man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash on the 91 Freeway in Riverside, authorities said.
The victim, 41-year-old Anaheim resident Hector Montes De Oca, was driving a 1998 Honda east on the 91 Freeway west of Monroe Street about 2:30 a.m. when he crashed in the carpool lane, causing his car to become disabled facing south, a California Highway Patrol news release said.
Minutes later, a 2015 Dodge driven by 25-year-old Michael Estebane approached the Honda in which Montes De Oca was sitting. The Dodge crashed into the right side of the Honda, the news release stated. Montes De Oca died at the scene.
Estebane and a 22-year-old passenger in the Dodge were taken to a hospital, the news release said. The two other passengers in the Dodge suffered minor to moderate injuries.
Estebane was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence. He was released after posting $75,000 bail, jail records show.
