He contacted the other driver after a minor property-damage collision in Chino, but for unknown reasons a 19-year-old Pomona resident fled at high speed and died when his car overturned and he was ejected Sunday, Sept. 17, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The first collision was on the eastbound 60 Freeway, west of Pipeline Avenue. Then, about 1 1/2 miles to the east the driver attempted to exit at Central Avenue and lost control of his 1999 Honda Accord due to high speed, according to a written statement by Officer Jesus Garcia, CHP spokesman.
The car collided with the right shoulder embankment at the ramp and overturned, then the driver was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:44 p.m.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jose Lamas-Guzman.
The CHP is investigating the circumstances of the incident and why the driver fled the initial collision.
