A Rialto woman died after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle Sunday evening, Jan. 28, in a residential area of the city, according to Rialto police and the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
Celia Cardona, 55, was hit about 8:25 p.m. as she crossing the street in the 600 block of South Lilac Avenue, coroner’s officials said.
Police said someone called them at 9:24 p.m. to report a woman was lying face-down in the road and not breathing. Officers and paramedics arrived, and Cardona was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, where she died.
According to police, the vehicle that hit Cardona had been driving south from Merrill Avenue and hit her as she was walking outside a crosswalk.
Investigators believe it was a dark-colored 2004 to 2007 BMW 5 Series that sustained front-end damage, based on the debris left at the scene.
Police asked anyone who may have information about the incident to call them at 909-820-2550 or report anonymously to 855-847-7247.
