Anthony Melendez, 21, of Ontario died at the scene, said Lt. Dave Smith of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Officers dispatched to the scene reported a 2016 Hyundai Veloster at the bottom of an embankment below Shoreline Drive, according to police.
Melendez was going westbound on Shoreline Drive, where he lost control of the car allowing it to hit the guardrail on the north side of the roadway. The Hyundai left the roadway and landed in a vacant dirt lot below Shoreline Drive.
Long Beach police collision investigators asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (562) 570-7355.
