A man and a woman were arrested early Friday morning when an off-duty Pomona police officer witnessed a hit-and run-crash on Holt Avenue, authorities said.
About 4:15 a.m., the off-duty Pomona police officer was going home when he saw a hit-and-run crash on Holt and Towne avenues, the Pomona Police Department said in a news statement.
The driver, who police identified as 26-year-old Benjamin Guillen, struck another vehicle and took off, police said. There were no injuries.
The off-duty officer followed the vehicle through a dark alley where Guillen switched seats with the female passenger, police said.
The vehicle continued through the 200 block of E. Kingsley Avenue where Guillen jumped out of the car and fled, police said.
Meanwhile, the female driver, identified as 24-year-old Alondra Gonzales, remained and was arrested. Police found a 7-year-old boy inside the car.
Gonzales was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and willful cruelty to a child, said Pomona police Lt. Ron McDonald.
Police searched the neighborhood and found Guillen hiding in the back yard of a house on Kingsley Avenue, police said.
Guillen was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, drunk driving and willful cruelty to a child, McDonald said.
