An Irvine man driving a utility truck died Monday when his vehicle collided into the back of a semi truck slowing for traffic on the 60 Freeway in Ontario, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The unidentified 52-year-old driver of the 2001 International utility truck was in the No. 4 lane of the westbound 60 Freeway behind a three-axle Kenworth tractor pulling an empty trailer, according to a CHP statement. As traffic slowed, the collision occurred about 11:48 a.m. near the Archibald Avenue offramp.
The crash shut down three lanes of traffic and authorities issued a SigAlert for the area.
Ontario fire personnel responded to the location and pronounced the utility truck driver dead at the scene, according to the statement. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office was called to the location around 12:20 p.m., officials said.
All lanes were reopened just before 4 p.m. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
