A 19-year-old woman suspected of driving while intoxicated ran a red light Monday at an Eastvale intersection, causing a crash that left two people with possible life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Investigators determined Grace Whitman, of Rancho Cucamonga, was driving a gray Subaru westbound on Schleisman Road and ran a red light at Scholar Way, according to a Riverside County sheriff’s news release. The Subaru collided in the intersection with a black Toyota sedan that was heading south.
The driver and a passenger of the Toyota suffered major to life-threatening injuries. Whitman was not injured in the crash, which deputies responded to at 4:53 p.m., the news release stated.
Whitman was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Upon being cleared, she was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing injury and one count of driving while under the influence with blood alcohol content over .08 and causing injury, according to online jail records.
Whitman was released from custody Tuesday and is scheduled to make an appearance Aug. 7 at the Riverside Hall of Justice, the jail records stated.
