A 19-year-old motorist is being held responsible for the deaths of three siblings who, authorities say, he ran over in Bloomington in June.
Leonardo Bravo was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 29 and charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of reckless driving, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Superior Court records.
Bravo was released after posting bail.
The collision happened just after 8:30 p.m. on June 24 on Slover Avenue east of Locust Avenue. An eastbound Dodge Challenger, traveling at what the CHP said was a “high rate of speed,” veered out of control across the westbound lanes and went up on the sidewalk.
Pedestrians Jose Manuel Jaureguis, 17; brother Angel Jaureguis, 20; and sister Andrea Jaureguis, 13; were struck and killed. Their mother, Maria Jauregui Luna, was injured. The family is from Bloomington.
The CHP news release did not offer additional details on why Bravo was charged. Investigations into major-injury traffic collisions often take months as authorities determine what charges, if any, are appropriate.
He has previous traffic convictions for having a headlight or taillight out and having the driver’s view obstructed by an object.
More than $42,000 was collected for the Jaureguis family through a fundraising website.
