A man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run after a pedestrian was struck and fatally injured and the driver fled the scene in Moreno Valley on Monday night.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Phillip Jermaine Jones, a 53-year-old Moreno Valley resident, is suspected of hitting a Moreno Valley woman on Old 215 Frontage Road, south of Cottonwood Avenue, and leaving the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The woman who died was identified by officials as Amber Alvarez, 36.
“The pedestrian sustained major injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the scene,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. “Evidence located at the scene led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Jones.”
Jones was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of hit and run with serious injury or death, and is scheduled to appear at the Riverside Hall of Justice on Thursday morning.
