One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the 215 Freeway in Perris on Saturday night.
The motorist who died was identified by Riverside County Coroner officials on Sunday as William Shelton, 54, of Lemon Grove.
The crash left another motorist with minor injuries and caused delays along the southbound side of the freeway.
Riverside County fire crews reported to the crash just south of Placentia Avenue at about 7:20 p.m., said Jody Hagemann, public information officer for the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
One person was reported dead at the scene, while a second patient suffered minor injuries, Hagemann said.
During the crash, a dark-colored sedan had flipped over, crossing from the southbound side and into the northbound side of the 215 Freeway, where the sedan had remained overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol log.
The first and second lanes of the southbound 215 were temporarily closed due to the crash, Caltrans announced on Twitter. The closures caused heavy traffic on the freeway, with many cars trying to exit spilling over to the Ramona Expressway, the CHP log said.
CHP officers investigated the crash.
