A 25-year-old pedestrian died Friday, Dec. 21, when he was struck by two vehicles whose drivers both failed to stop, the California Highway Patrol said.

Troy Fredrick Varnado, of Compton, died at 6:40 p.m., the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office said.

Someone reported in a 911 call at 6:31 p.m. that a man was acting strangely and walking in traffic lanes on Cedar Avenue just south of Marygold Avenue, the Coroner’s Office said. Minutes later it was reported that a northbound pickup struck the man.

That pickup was a silver 2015 Toyota Tundra, the CHP said. The driver abandoned the Tundra on Magnolia Street, north of Marygold. Then, a four-door sedan struck Varnado, and that driver also failed to stop, the CHP said.

The CHP has identified a person of interest as the driver of the Tundra.

The CHP asks that anyone with information on the collision call 909-383-4247.
